So, after training down to Juan les Pins and enjoying the French Riviera, Chef and Sue took another couple of trains via Ventimiglia to Milan. There we had drinks and 80s music at Bar Bianco in Parco Sempione, went to the original Prada shop in the glass covered Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, and ate great grilled vegetables and pasta at Da Giordano Il Bolognese.
Next we were off to Como where we lunched at the Metropole in the town square before catching a fast boat to Gravedona where we stayed for a few days. There, Ca’ de’ Matt was our favourite restaurant with delicious home made bread covered in fresh tomato and super salads. We ferried over to beautiful Bellagio and lunched with a view of the lake, before returning to Como to take up residence in the Palace Hotel in a room with big windows looking out onto the water. A great spot for lunch is Le Coq off the main square.
The funicular train nearby took us up into the hills where we walked to a stone lighthouse and climbed to the top for a sublime view down into the valley, followed by some lovely food at polenta specialist Cacciatore in Brunate. Finally, as a special treat we went to Villa D’Este for a fabulous lunch under their orange awning in a spectacular spot by the front – dazzling. Chef’s Kiss!
